I'm starting to plow through the demo CD's I've been getting. The first I've got to share with you is the debut from New York based Lipstik pleasantly entitled Everything is Good. Upon reading the title, I was reminded of the fictional Simpsons band 'Hooray for Everything,' but that says way more about me than them. This album carries the familiar New Yorker feeling of misplaced identity and a need for a place in the world, but has a fresh way of expression. The obvious Tom Petty influences are always a plus, and I love the extreme bitterness of The Fuck Off. Plus, the ambition of undertaking an Eagles cover on a debut is something to be admired. Take a listen, drop 'em a line.

Well, although I've been the worst blogger in the history of the world as of late, I felt the need to celebrate. Lost On Purpose is one year old today! Awwww, it's still one cute baby, I know. Still unsure if I have anyone still out there, but dammit, I'll still celebrate. *throws confetti in the air*

Those who know me know I'm very much in love with Ted Leo. Age difference, schmage difference. I saw him open for Death Cab for Cutie last month and was extremely close to kidnapping him and keeping him in my house against his will. If you're not convinced after listening to Where Have All the Rude Boys Gone, I will be at a complete loss. Plus, The Anointed One may be a possible Buffy the Vampire Slayer reference. Maybe I'm just a nerd.

Canadian punk cuties the Flatliners have to be the most adorable guys to ever play their genre (call it what you may) of music. I attended a performance of theirs in the dirtiest, grittiest tiniest basement for a punk show ever and had a fantastic time, minus the claustrophobia. OK, say what you will, but I love the All American Rejects. They're very catchy and it's my blog so I can post whatever I want. I also admit to having a teenage girl crush on Tyson Ritter. Anyways, I caught their show in London on Thursday night with opening acts Damone from Boston (Noelle on lead vocals sure can scream) and the surprisingly good semi-local alt-rockers illScarlett from Missasauga. Despite a few unexplainable 14-year-olds in need of Ritalin, there was good energy all the way through, although I would have liked the sets to be longer. But I got Tyson to sign my CD, so all was worth it.

Yo Ho, A Pirate's Life for Me...

I saw Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest yesterday (and still managed to get in free although it sold out all night) and I just have to say, even if you're not a scary Johnny Depp obsessive like myself, everyone will love this movie. Although not quite on par with the first, the action is amped up, the stakes are a great deal higher and the story has a much more sinister undertone. Look forward to the fantastic Johnny/Orlando Bloom/Jack Davenport sword fight. I won't reveal the ending, but I just have to say, I was blown away. I'm no movie critic, but if you saw the first one, POTC:2 is worth checking out.

I vaguely remember someone asking for some Gogol and if not, I've finally cracked and you get some anyway. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical of Gogol Bordello at first, but he grew on me and now this is one of my most played albums. I personally love when different genres fuse together and this mixes traces of latin, punk and reggae, with Eugene Hutz's fantastic voice and a lot of accordion. You won't find gypsy punk anywhere else. Highlights include 60 Revolutions, Start Wearing Purple and Mishto!

Once upon a Thursday, a girl was doing her bi-weekly hunt through the local music store, searching for all that's new and not crappy, a difficult task this was. Upon reaching the M section, the girl came across a discovery, there was a copy of The Moon and Antarctica for a very, very low price indeed. Now, the way everybody and their friends love this movie, I'm pretty sure I am the only person in this hemisphere that thought it was way too over-rated. Groundbreaking maybe, but just too damn long and draggy. Regardless of my boredom while watching the movie, the brilliant film score certainly held my attention. Acoustic guitar slays me every time. And I love Rufus Wainwright. S'got some pretty fantastic country acts on there too.

Welcome to the story of The Mars Volta's De-Loused in the Comatorium. This is one of those albums it's impossible to categorize, so listen for yourself. A love letter to late musician Julio Venegas (who committed suicide by jumping onto an Interstate from an overpass in El Paso back in '96), who is the influence for the character "Cerpin Taxt" who tries to commit suicide by overdosing on morphine. Fantastic vocals, epic lengthy songs, Flea from the Chili Peppers playing on 9 of the 10 tracks (though you would never tell) and some of my favourite album designs ever are all reasons to get this album. I'm back, and before you ask, I had a wonderful time. There is no place in the world like Costa Rica and I sure as hell can't go back to regular Canadian coffee now. Just in case you care, the song played on my Ipod the most throughout my little excursion was 'Freebird' for some reason. I was very sad to leave, and just to prove that life is never short of it's poetic moments, some guy was playing 'Dust in the Wind' on an acoustic guitar as I boarded the plane in the terminal in San Jose. Crazyness. Upon my return, they had killed off my favourite TV character.(Grrr, yes, I care immensely, make fun of me later.) However, on the flip side, I see things are looking up, as Kristi has set up shop again. Hopefully, things work out better for her the second time around and I wish her all the best, as always. That being said, I hope I didn't lose my loyal readers, if any, to far greater bloggers than I. I'm still here, I promise. Okay, on to the music.

I leave for a little excursion to Costa Rica in 9 days, so I'm really busy right now. I believe I'm returning on either March 18th or 19th, so I'm not leaving forever, just to clarify.

While digging through my Inbox, I found this little EP in the mail. I think Eric did a post of this a little while back, but what the hell. I must say, I (like pretty much every other blogger I read) am usually drawn to music that isn't conventional, and this certainly fits the mold. You can just kick back and space out for a good ten minutes. Although this isn't the best that Stationary Odyssey has come up with, (that being More or Less is More) this is certainly worth a listen.

To those interested: Kristi informed me that she has cancelled her blog because it had become something that she didn't want it to be. However, if she finds things that she really wants posted, she will send it my way. Just remember people, we keep and maintain these blogs for ourselves, not just for you. So far, I have not encountered the same problems that she did, and hopefully that's the way it stays.

They hail from Toronto and as far as I know, this album dropped in 2002 is their only offering. I heard somewhere that they have a follow-up due for release sometime this year, but I don't know how accurate those rumours are. It's damn difficult to find now, so I hope you like it.

I was about 12 when I first heard it, a very good friend of mine used to play Superman's Dead on his guitar and have me sing for him. This album showed me that music is more than what's on the radio, and it can be Canadian too. I'll admit, I am disappointed with the new OLP album, but this classic holds a special place in my heart.

Still patiently waiting for At War With the Mysics to leak...April can't come soon enough

I recieved an email not too long ago from Finian McKean, whom you may know from the fantastic former indie rock offering, The Push Kings, then known as Finn Moore Gerety. He has now branched out on his own and we are all the better for it. He very thoughtfully sent me a copy of his new CD in the mail, with a note telling me to "turn it up" which of course, I did and was not disappointed. "Shades are Drawn" is thoughtful, draws you in and holds your attention throughout. A little rocking, a little haunting and a sure-fire way to let your mind wander. The entire album screams New York and a longing for escape from it. My personal favourite is "Black Hole." I'm sure Mr. McKean would love to hear comments from you, so drop him a line.

I found this the other day, apparently there was some kind of contest, to make new trailers for movies, but make them seem like a completely different genre. Only sound and music could be modified. The winning one was this awesome cut of the Shining. For all who have seen/read The Shining, this is absolutely hilarious.

I've only got a few minutes today, so I leave you with a fantastic piece of music. Anyone who knows me knows my adoration for the film Requiem for a Dream, and upon searching for the brilliant score to this film, I came upon this track, not sure who it was mixed by, but I've heard it was Oakenfold. As the original was done by Clint Mansell and the Kronos quartet, that's what I've got it tagged as. Not sure on the accuracy of the name either, but if anyone has more info, please, please send it my way.

Well, my verdict on Harry Potter 4 is fan-fucking-tastic, but could it really be anything else? However, I'd like to express my distaste at Gary Oldman only being present in the fire-face variety. That movie needs more Gary, all movies do. Another question I have is, why is Harry Potter inexplicably ripped? The kid's supposed to be like 14 and he's got muscles from here till Thursday. I do admit to having a teenage girl crush on both Cedric Diggory and Viktor Krum. Can you blame me?

I don't have any music for you today(I know, I'm a bad blogger and should be shot), but here are some random things for you to know:
1. I know only obsessive Johnny Depp fans such as myself would care about this, but I am currently in the process of downloading The Libertine. Happiness! Not sure if it's being released in theaters or not, I really hope so.
2. After many stressful weeks of dealing with little bastards who get to see it before me, I am finally going to see the fourth Harry Potter flick tonight.
3. The third release from New York garage pretty boys The Strokes is coming out in January and called First Impressions of Earth. I know, I like them and you can all hate me now.
4. In approximately 10 days, there will be a re-release of Beck's Guero remixed entitled Guerolito!!! Happy , happy!

P.S. I know you all know this already, but fans of the Dresden Dolls will be happy to know they can buy In Paradise at a store near you!

I am well aware how slow MegaUpload can be, and I apologize for that. Those who know me know my issues with Rapidshare (issues being: it hates me and I hate it). I got an email a few days ago from an individual named Wil and he told me about his band happening to have the same name as this very blog. To answer Kelly/Jose's question, Canadians actually celebrate the exact same Thanksgiving you do, except ours was held on October the 10th. I have absolutely no idea why they're different.

I don't know if anyone has read the works of Chuck Klosterman, pop culture prophet and senior Spin writer, but I have just picked up his latest book, Killing Yourself to Live:85% of a True Story. I thought his manifesto Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs was absolutely brilliant, so I'm hoping that this one lives up to my high expectations.
In Cocoa Puffs, Klosterman asks his reader several questions that I find very intriguing so I thought I'd post one for you to ask yourself:
You meet your soul mate. However there is a catch: Every three years, someone will break both of your soulmate's collarbones with a Crescent wrench, and there is only one way you can stop this from happening:You must swallow a pill that will make every song you hear-for the rest of your life-sound as if it's being performed by the band Alice in Chains. When you hear Creedence Clearwater Revival on the radio it will sound (to your ears) like it's being played by Alice in Chains. If you see Radiohead live, every one of their tunes will sound is it's being covered by Alice in Chains. Welcome to Lost on Purpose, yet another blog about the sharing and appreciation of music by a bored little Canadian girl. Good music. It's still a work in progress, so I'll be tweaking here and there, but the aim won't change.
If any of you are thinking that this is going to be as good as That Girl Needs Therapy by the stimulating Kristi Helmes, don't get your hopes up, because hers is the best thing since sliced bread and you'll just be disappointed. I will, however, do my very best because I love spreading the music around, so any requests I get will be loved like my children. I don't really have children, but you get it.
