All around me are familiar faces, worn out places...

I'm back, and before you ask, I had a wonderful time. There is no place in the world like Costa Rica and I sure as hell can't go back to regular Canadian coffee now. Just in case you care, the song played on my Ipod the most throughout my little excursion was 'Freebird' for some reason. I was very sad to leave, and just to prove that life is never short of it's poetic moments, some guy was playing 'Dust in the Wind' on an acoustic guitar as I boarded the plane in the terminal in San Jose. Crazyness. Upon my return, they had killed off my favourite TV character.(Grrr, yes, I care immensely, make fun of me later.) However, on the flip side, I see things are looking up, as Kristi has set up shop again. Hopefully, things work out better for her the second time around and I wish her all the best, as always. That being said, I hope I didn't lose my loyal readers, if any, to far greater bloggers than I. I'm still here, I promise. Okay, on to the music.

Since I've been back, my head has been in a weird place and the best thing that I can take is your token, trippy, mellow, floaty stuff usually done by a British band. So here is one of my favourite prime examples. Who can deny the catchiness of Wires? Don't tell me you don't love it.

Athlete - Tourist
Track List:
1. Chances
2. Half Light
3. Tourist
4. Trading Air
5. Wires
6. If I Found Out
7. Yesterday Threw Everything At Me
8. Street Map
9. Modern Mafia
10. Twenty Four Hours
11. I Love

It's time to tell you honestly, so we can alter history

Bear with me, until I get back to simulated normalcy.

All my bags are packed, I'm ready to Go

Well kids, I'm off to Costa Rica, so I hope you all have a lovely week-and-a-half. I'm very excited, no matter how pissed off I am that I'm going to miss the Stills at Blue Mountain on the 11th (grrrr). I'll be back soon, and remember email lostonpurpose@gmail.com for any requests. In the meantime, feel free to check out any of the other fabulous blogs on my sidebar.

Ciao!

You Could Never Publish My Love...

I leave for a little excursion to Costa Rica in 9 days, so I'm really busy right now. I believe I'm returning on either March 18th or 19th, so I'm not leaving forever, just to clarify.

While digging through my Inbox, I found this little EP in the mail. I think Eric did a post of this a little while back, but what the hell. I must say, I (like pretty much every other blogger I read) am usually drawn to music that isn't conventional, and this certainly fits the mold. You can just kick back and space out for a good ten minutes. Although this isn't the best that Stationary Odyssey has come up with, (that being More or Less is More) this is certainly worth a listen.
Perpetual of the Retired Evermore EP
1. Perpetual of the Retired Evermore
2. Aiming at the Blur
3. Song 6 (Unreleased)
4. Uh (Rehearsal)

Don't Think About It, It's Only Pretend

To those interested: Kristi informed me that she has cancelled her blog because it had become something that she didn't want it to be. However, if she finds things that she really wants posted, she will send it my way. Just remember people, we keep and maintain these blogs for ourselves, not just for you. So far, I have not encountered the same problems that she did, and hopefully that's the way it stays.

I feel substantially less guilty than normal for posting this album because I know how very hard it is to find, but if you like Make Me Pretty, I highly recommend buying Darby and Joan, the latest fantastic release from Gentleman Reg.

Gentleman Reg - Make Me Pretty
Track List:
1. Statement
2. Give Me the Chance to Fall
3. Make Me Pretty
4. You're So Alone
5. Two Boys in Love

9. Hard to Speak
10. The Three Most Important Girls

13. Anthem for Self-Confidence

Just sit in my bedroom and admire the view

Now here is possibly the most lucrative and completely unnecessary live covers ever. Possibly the two most un-disco-ish people ever covering the Bee Gees. Dynamite!

I'm Beginning to Know Things...

So, I finally have some time, and I remember there being a request for this wonderful album, but I forget by whom. The Cansecos were played in my car during Canadian music week, though I never got around to posting it on here.
They hail from Toronto and as far as I know, this album dropped in 2002 is their only offering. I heard somewhere that they have a follow-up due for release sometime this year, but I don't know how accurate those rumours are. It's damn difficult to find now, so I hope you like it.

Get It All Now, Cause I'm On The Prowl

If you're one of the zero people who has not checked out the leak for At War with the Mystics, get out from under your rock and head here.
At War With the Mystics
I was on a drugless high (and likely still am) for many many hours upon first hearing, and you should be too. I can die happy now.

Happy Valentines Day to everyone whos paired up out there. If however, you're like me and alone on this day, go out and get your favourite movie and curl up on the couch. Or hit the bars. Either one.
Here's a V-Day treat for you: another album that continues to be in my rotation despite being released in 2003 because it's just that darn good.

This Is Whiplash Rock N' Roll

Since I have every faith in the world in French-Canadian bands, particularly from Montreal and if you take the time to send me a sonewhat lengthy email, as vocalist Patrick Pleau did, your songs will get heard. Plus, I'm happy to give anyone an audience, as long as they don't suck or make my ears bleed. At the risk of sounding pretentious, I really like Plajia, anything that reminds me of Pink Floyd and Radiohead gets a thumbs up in my books. Here are the songs recommended to me by Mr. Pleau:
Plajia - Sleeping
Plajia - The Party
Plajia - Am I A Magician?(Flaming Lips-esque title+Good Song=Solid!)

Cheers All!

I Wouldn't Need a Hero If I Wasn't Such a Zero

Since I've had a lot of unexpected free time lately, I was diggin' through the ol' CD library (finding some very interesting and sometimes very scary things by the way) and I found this forgotten little gem to post. It's hard to find a story sadder than that of Elliott Smith(unfortunately known to some as "that Good Will Hunting guy"). He was actually named Steve but he deemed that too "jockish." How rock and roll is that?

Track List:
1. Needle In The Hay
2. Christian Brothers
3. Clementine
4. Southern Belle
5. Single File
6. Coming Up Roses
7. Satellite
8. Alphabet Town

Well It's Good to Know That You'll Be OK

Edit(11.00 A.M) - Looks like Saturday's post of The Age of Electric's Make a Pest a Pet album didn't publish. I'm too lazy to post it again, so email me if you want it.

To round off my all Canadian music week, I leave you with an album that is very special to me. This is the first album that I ever really fell in love with. I was about 12 when I first heard it, a very good friend of mine used to play Superman's Dead on his guitar and have me sing for him. This album showed me that music is more than what's on the radio, and it can be Canadian too. I'll admit, I am disappointed with the new OLP album, but this classic holds a special place in my heart.
